The Request form is now closed for 2016 Workshop Bees – click here for other volunteering opportunities!
Workshop Bees are pre-booked, 3 hour shifts for groups of 4 to 20 volunteers. Groups may be involved in some or all of the following activities: preparing gifts for individual children, bagging gifts for families, sorting toy donations, condensing sorted toy bins, and putting batteries in toys. All Workshop Bee volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.
Workshop Bees are extremely popular and we often receive more requests than shifts available. In order to make it as fair of a process as possible, a lottery draw may be held for any oversubscribed (typically evening) shifts.
Where: Santas Depot
When: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
Individuals and small groups (2-4 people) may wish to volunteer on drop-in days. Drop-in days are Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. More information on other volunteer activities for individuals and small groups can be found here.
The Workshop Bee application request deadline is October 31 each year. Each group contact will be notified by November 10 if your group is successful or not.
Over the four weeks there are a limited number of shifts available, as well we can only accommodate a certain number of people at a time based on space and workload. Over the past few years we have received double the amount of requests from groups than shifts available and this has led to the lottery system.
We understand that some companies want to know if they have been awarded a shift before November 10, please appreciate we try to make it as fair for everyone and therefore have set out the guidelines.
All requests are reviewed and scheduled after the October 31 application deadline.
We are very fortunate and do not take for granted that so many groups and individuals want to be part of delivering the spirit of Christmas.
